As the Marketing and Communications Coordinator for Cybersecurity Grant Projects at Whatcom Community College, I managed the website for Catalyzing Computing and Cybersecurity in Community Colleges (C5), an NSF-funded project supporting the creation of a nationwide network of community colleges that have met national standards in cybersecurity education.
Shortly after receiving a crash course in the Joomla content management system, I was challenged to design the C5 website. I adapted a simple but effective design template to the color palette of the C5 logo, and I set up the site’s navigation to meet the needs of two groups of educators.
During more than two years updating and maintaining the site, I responded to requests for improvements from the grant project’s leaders. I created a colorful interface of large buttons to encourage educators to explore the variety of course modules available for free download. In response to state requirements that websites hosted by community colleges comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, I replaced our existing calendar system with a new calendar designed to be ADA compliant.
